Curly Willows ($4 - half off at Hobby Lobby)
Burlap
Twine
Old Pots Large enough to fit your evergreens

This weekend I worked on “sprucing” up outside the house since it was so nice outside! 40 degrees… in Minnesota… in November?! This doesn’t happen people, get out there and take advantage of it while you still can! First on my “to do” list was to fill some pots with evergreens and sticks so we can have a little color around the house even when its 20 below outside. My Mom and I had visited Hilltop Florist in Mankato, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend $20 on some spruce tips. So, we found a red bush and trimmed plenty of branches. Next, I asked Matt, my husband to trim some evergreen branches for me. First, we visited his grandpa’s farm to get some “Fluffy” branches (I know you love my technical term.) Next, I needed some different filler so we trimmed some trees in the backyard. Here is a picture of Matt trimming in the backyard.

Next, I took two old pots that I had. See below.

They look great in the summer filled with bright colored plants but they didn’t seem to fit with the evergreens. So, I took some burlap that I found at my local garden center. It was perfect! I simply put the pot in the center of my burlap, made sure I had enough to tuck each end into the center. Then I cut the piece of burlap and tucked the ends inside the pot.

Next, I secured the burlap by tying my twine around the outside of the pot. It was still a little loose but after I filled the pot with my greens it was perfect. The best part is, you could use any old pot or bucket for this and it would still look great. (I don't have a great picture of this part, but basically, just make sure you tie a tight bow around the pot to secure your burlap.)
I started by filling the pot with my largest branches. Then, I filled in with the smaller branches, followed by the red twigs, curly willows and my branch. Check out the final product here:

I’m going to place one pot on either side of our steps! I can’t wait to finish decorating the outside (and inside) for Christmas!
Thanks for checking out my blog! Let me know if you have any questions; I'd love to hear if you try this out!
