Shutter Display Project

Tonight I worked on updating my shutters. I picked them up at one of my favorite occasional shops, Linda's Cellar in Chaska, MN. They were the perfect red to go with my Christmas decorations so I got two for $6 each!

My intention was to use the shutters to display Christmas cards by sticking the back of the card through the slots in the shutters. However, when I got home I realized that the slots of the shutters were painted shut. So I had to tweak them a bit to make it work. A friend of mine showed me this from Carver Junk Company:

Barn wood card holder, whitewashed and twine. #christmas #repurposed

So I used the same concept with my shutters. Here is a picture of my supplies:

You'll need:
Hot Glue/Glue Gun
Twine
Shutter
Small Clothes Pins/Wood

I had all of these things on hand which is always a bonus!

I started by gluing the end of my twine to the shutter.

Then, I wrapped the twine around several times (making sure it crossed in the front), and continued to glue on the back when needed. Here is a view from the front during the process.
I continued this until I felt like I had enough twine to hang things from. Here is the final product:
Friends and family - bring on the Christmas cards because I can't wait to display them! This was an easy-peasy project and you could use something like this to display almost anything, pictures, concert tickets, art projects from your kids, articles from the paper, you name it! Do you use shutters for anything?
